TEXAS Z PARTY ORIGINATION by David Morreale aka Z Car Dave

I've had several people ask me…."where did the idea for the TEXAS Z PARTY" come from?
At several car shows and get togethers, this has been a topic of discussion.
Many people think that the original idea started in the lobby of the Hilton Hotel in Daytona Beach Florida during the 20th annual Z Convention.
While this was a major turning point in the beginning of this event, it wasn't where it started.
It actually started, while sitting on the front bench seat of a dual cab Dodge Diesel Truck…pulling a show car, while rolling down Hwy. 81 in West Virginia.
Owner and driver, Steve Vorenkamp and I were on our way to the 10th Annual Z Car Convention in York, Pennsylvania.
The date was July 20th, 1997.
After 4 days of driving, stopping, visiting with friends along the way, more driving….many topics were discussed.
The idea for the TEXAS Z PARTY kind of developed as the miles rolled by.
We thought…why can't we hold a mini-convention on a more local level? Texas is big and diverse enough and there are enough clubs and enthusiasts…and the ideas just started coming forth from there.
While we agreed that NOTHING could top the International Z Convention, there was no reason that a smaller, more regional event couldn't co-exist. After all…the main convention was tooooo fun….we were trying to figure out a way to have even MORE fun !
Unfortunately…like many good ideas, it kind of got put on the back burner and simmered there for years.
Move ahead 10 years !
Daytona Beach, Florida…the 20th Annual International Z Car Convention. Z Enthusiasts from all over the world. Many old and dear friendships re-visited, many new friendships developed. As in every convention past, there were many new faces. While in the lobby of the host hotel, I was introduced to the new officers of the Capital City Z Club from Austin…Mike Lindahl and Rob Curtis. To say that they were having a good time would be a gross understatement !
I quickly realized, upon meeting these guys, that HERE was my opportunity to get the TEXAS Z PARTY off the ground.
They were young…they were enthusiastic…they had the backing of a good solid club…the perfect foil for my hair-brained idea.
As with almost all good ideas..things began to fall into place. All the Texas Clubs were contacted…Meetings were held…enthusiasm was there…so the ball was handed to Capital City Z, and away they went !...and again…like a lot of good ideas, this event developed a life of its own.
Hopefully each and every TZP will have its own flavor and identity and will continue to be embraced for years to come by all Nissan Enthusiasts.
